Drift Safari Strikes at Grassroots Drift Event
Drift Safari Strikes at Grassroots Drift Event
With another lovely Western Washington morning among us, with it's rain and overcast weather, the line began outside the Evergreen Speedway back gate. 31 drivers registered for the competition that day, and of those 31, 3 were from Canada. Kohei from Drift Safari, Marc & Seth from Midnighters. With the challenge set, the day began with some practice runs in the wet while the track dried out, the goal was the top... And everyone was gunning for it. With the Ian Fournier sweep still on the minds of most local drivers from last year, there was a clear cut case of gunning for us canadians to knock us out early... But they Failed!
Kohei and his "zombie" silvia were as steady as ever in his driving, even with the spurts of rain through the day nothing seemed to phase him or through him off his game. After taking out Seth in the top 16, Kohei was paired up with Chris Armstrong in the UP Garage 240sx Coupe...and what a battle it was! They were both driving at the tops of their game and Each got the advantage for one of their runs, the judges voted for a one more time battle and it began!
After 2 very solid runs from each driver Kohei come out victorious...and moved on to the finals against Mike Lukomskiy and his battle proven Turbo Miata.
After 2 hard runs and each driver getting closer and closer to the one he was following they came to a tie...so they went at it again! After this round of ever so exciting battles there appeared a victor....... Kohei!
Congratulations to Kohei and his impressive driving through the whole event, I hope to see him out at PRO-AM and watch him tackle the 5/8ths!
