Cell Block D Drift Safari
Scott Goodman

Scott’s interest in drifting started whatching the old Grip Video series, and was pushed over the top after viewing the first JDM Insider. He immediately started the search for a drift car. Unimpressed with the condition of most S13’s on the market, he gravitated towards his final choice a red S14. At first Trent was the only other person he knew into drifting. They played around in industrial complexes throughout the lower mainland, and gradually started making their way further and further out of town in search of mountain roads, suitable to drift. They had a map book they scoured for twisty looking roads (their own drift bible), and would sometimes drive hours just to find that a corner that looked good on the map ended up being unpaved or just plain suicide with cliffs and no guard rails. During these late night adventures, being out on safari looking for good corners is where Drift Safari got its roots.

Although fun, the street always left them wanting more. Scott and Trent had ongoing talks with various people in the local scene trying to get organized events started. A lack of local venues made this goal seem unattainable.

One night when Scott and Trent were out looking for new corners to drift, they took a random turn down a side road, a few kilometres later a sign on the side of the road reads “Race Track Ahead”. Huh?! This is when they stumbled upon Agassiz Speedway, and with a little work, CellBlock D was started.

The CellBlock D events where started as an outlet for people to experience drifting without the distractions of public roads and the risks of losing your drivers licence. Although Agassiz is a unforgiving track, it allowed the Drift Safari team members skill level to progress in leaps and bounds.

The 2009 season marked Scott's return to the track, after the better part of a two year break due to illness. Unfortunately his season was short lived, he put the S14 into the wall hard at Evergreen only three events into the season.
