steven thompson.

Steven Thompson started his love affair with jdm cars whilst growing up in Australia, after owning many “domestics” Steven went for his first ride in a workmates 1992 sil80 powered by a 300hp sr20 and two weeks later he bought the car.
Steven started his spray painting and autobody apprenticeship after finishing highschool in 2002 and worked at a shop that specialised in painting fast import drag and drift cars. Upon purchase of his sil80 a few clients took steve out on street drifting sessions and he instantly knew that was what he wanted to do. So after honing his skills in parking lots and industrial estates Steven entered his first competition at Queensland raceway in Australia and made top 16 in a field of 100 cars. After competing for a season Steven sold his beloved sil80 and began the build process of an sr86. The build took approximately 1 year to complete and by the time it was finished Steven had lost the love for drifting and had found a new love in wake boarding for which he rode 3-4 times per week.
Upon moving to Canada in November of 2006 Steven needed a new hobby, and since the wake boarding scene in Canada was very small it was only logical to get back into drifting. Steven bought an sr swapped 240sx and got back to his roots of street drifting. He did a complete build up of this car that included custom satin champagne coloured paint and with that OZ DESIGNS was born. As he didnt know of anyone else that was drifting in the area Steven sold his 240sx and proceeded to do a winter build up of a 1uzfe ae86. As the past has shown, steven and corollas are just not meant to be, but deciding to build this corolla was the best thing to happen to Steve.
Steve attended Cellblock D 12 to watch and help out and while he was there he met Chris Scremin, Pat Lee and Trent Stromkins briefly. As it happened, Chris had heard of Steven building up a v8 corolla through mutual friend Ramsay Trew and offered his fabrication services in exchange for custom paint. This moment was pivotal for Stevens drifting career and for the brotherhood that is OZ DESIGNS / FORTRESS FABRICATION / DRIFT SAFARI AND NEPTUNE D.
With a new group of drift friends and the start of the season fast approaching Steve saw a great opportunity when a cheap JDM Nissan Silvia was listed for sale. After doing nothing but fitting a bucket seat and slamming the car to the ground it was time to rekindle his love affair with not only drifting but Nissan.
In his first season back after a 4 year break from drifting Steven progressed very quickly and placed highly in most competitions that he entered including competitions all over bc and into washington state. Steven loves nothing more then free-driving and uncompetitive drifting and putting on a show for the crowd with close tandem runs, huge amounts of smoke and his trademark rev-limiter and clutch kicking.
